It can be hard. Break ups always are. How do you part ways with a way of life you’ve gotten so used to? A way of living that provided you with comfort and security. You know nothing else at this point and starting over is so very daunting. Ugh, starting over…awkwardness as you feel each other out…who wants to be bothered with those pleasantries. But, alas, you can’t keep holding on to what is destined to be an eventual failure. So you finally muster the courage to do it. To finally let go, let go of your FAVORITE article of clothing. It’s practically rags by now, too many holes to count. And those shoes, coming apart at the sole, yet you can’t bear to toss them away.
But, we have to. Once our favorite pieces become more than an article of clothing, they become an important part of our lives. So much so that we often lack the ability to see when these items are way past their prime. I mean, so what if my sherpa lined J. Crew hoodie has several holes in the sleeves. It’s still warm! It’s still being held together (mostly) … and, it’s like I have my very own Yeezy item. It works.
However, the moment we let go, we open ourselves up to newer and better clothes! Maybe a trendy jacket that’s so right now. OR a pair of classic boots that will last you (hopefully) a lifetime. So, today I ask you to look at your worn down & tattered comfort items and see them with fresh eyes. IF it’s necessary, find the strength to part ways so you can make room for you new favorite item!
